Company History

The relationship with coffee starts in the 1940s, when ___ Bagersh decided to try his hand in coffee. Since then, the Bagersh Family has taken pride in producing and promoting fine Ethiopian coffee. The Bagersh heritage of coffee production stems from a deep passion that nurtures the product right from the farm to that quintessential first sip of this world-renowned coffee.

In 2006, Jalannera was born to take this passion one step further by producing high quality roasted coffee for local and overseas consumption. Tarara benefits from the deep knowledge & experience the Bagersh family has in sourcing and processing the finest washed and sundried beans from across the country. 

The company markets its product under the brand name ‘Tarara Coffee’. Tarara Coffee is a premium product that uses selected coffees to cater to its high-end customers looking for the best quality roasted coffee in the market.  Tarara coffee was the leader in introducing flexible packaging with aluminum and de-gas valve to the Ethiopian market in 2014.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to have a lasting impact on the value chain of coffee by promoting ‘roasted at the origin’ concept. Jalannera sees the value of working closely with coffee farmers, demonstrated in its sourcing method.

Jalannera Coffee Export and Coffee Farm PLC (Jalannera) is an Ethiopian company in the coffee roasting sector. Our company roasts, grinds and packs its coffee for local and foreign markets. We have a wide range of clients in the hospitality industry as well as retail businesses in Ethiopia.

Jalannera is the leading exporter in the Ethiopian coffee roasting business.

At full production, Jalannera roasting machines produce 3.2 tons of roasted coffee per day. Jalannera has an estimated annual production capacity of around 1000 tons.

OUR GOAL

Jalannera’s goal is to expand its market reach within Ethiopia by supplying good quality roasted coffee at affordable prices locally and increase its supply of roasted Ethiopian Highland Arabica coffee to clients abroad.

Jalannera believes Ethiopia can be put on the map of coffee, not only in the green coffee sector but also in the value-added coffee business. All the coffee that is exported abroad is sourced directly from farmer co-operatives that benefit from its better purchasing price. Tarara currently sources its coffee from co-ops in that gather their coffee from the Yayu forest. These co-ops are incentivized to protect the forest because it’s their means of income.

OUR POLICY

The Company food safety policy is approved by the Management. Jalannera Coffee Export and Coffee Farm PLC is committed to produce and supply quality and safe roasted and ground coffee to the market that meets customers as well as regulatory requirements through the implementation of FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System.

To improve the effectiveness of the food safety management system, Jalannera Coffee Export and Coffee Farm PLC is committed:
a) To provide appropriate resources and maintain their capability;
b) To ensure that hygienic requirements for employees, machineries, equipment, tools, work areas and premises are fully met;
To establish and maintain effective internal and external communications.
